Inshore
The inshore fishing area includes the shoreline and the Gulf Islands. The good fishing areas are not far from Bahía Rica and the fishing can start almost right away depending on the species targeted. The whole shoreline of the Gulf side down to Cabo Blanco and up the other side of the peninsula up to about Samara are the Nicoya inshore areas. On the mainland side, the stretch from Punta Leona to Quepos is considered inshore. Short trips and ½ day trips will be fished on the Nicoya side and Gulf Islands, while 1 day trips give the opportunity to go further if necessary.

Offshore
The offshore fishing area is large. Also here, depending upon the species targeted it is not always necessary to go extremely far. The outer areas of the Gulf, outside of Cabo Blanco and the drop-offs out from Jaco and Quepos are prime areas.
